INTRODUCTION

We recognise that modern slavery is a global concern and we are taking steps to ensure that we have practices in place to combat slavery and human trafficking. We take a zero tolerance approach to modern slavery within our operations and supply chain.

 

OUR ORGANISATION

Wiley is a global provider of knowledge and knowledge-enabled services that improve outcomes in areas of research, professional practice and education. John Wiley & Sons Limited is part of the Wiley group of companies and our ultimate parent company is John Wiley & Sons, Inc. which has its head office in Hoboken, New Jersey, USA. The Group has approximately 5,000 employees worldwide and operates globally. The Group has a global annual turnover of in the region of US$ 1.8 billion.

 

OUR BUSINESS

Our business is organised into three business units, Research, Professional Development and Education. Through the Research segment, the Company provides digital and print scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly journals, reference works, books, database services, and advertising. The Professional Development segment provides digital and print books, online assessment and training services, and test prep and certification. In Education, Wiley provides education solutions including online program management services for higher education institutions and course management tools for instructors and students, as well as print and digital content.

 

Our supply chains include: printing services, composition services, Business Process Outsourcing services, facilities management and office supplies, travel, paper and technology.

 

OUR POLICIES  ON SLAVERY AND  HUMAN TRAFFICKING

We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. Our Anti-slavery Policy reflects our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in out supply chains.

 

DUE DILIGENCE PROCESSES FOR SLAVERY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING

As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk, all Strategic Sourcing and Procurement colleagues located in the UK are CIPS accredited and adhere to the CIPS code of ethics and we have in place systems to:

Identify and assess potential risk areas in our supply chains.

Mitigate the risk of slavery and human trafficking occurring in our supply chains.

Monitor potential risk areas in our supply chains.

Protect whistle blowers.

 

SUPPLIER ADHERENCE  TO OUR VALUES  AND ETHICS

We have zero tolerance to slavery and human trafficking. To ensure all those in our supply chain and contractors comply with our values we have in place a Business Conduct Policy.

 

We also have a compliance team, which consists of representatives from the following departments:

Legal

Audit and compliance

Human resources

Procurement

 

This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending 30 April 2016 and was approved by the board of directors of John Wiley & Sons Limited.
