Winners of the Wiley Prizes in Economics and Psychology 2015 Announced

Hoboken, NJ

John Wiley and Sons, Inc., and the British Academy are pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Wiley Prize in Economics and the Wiley Prize in Psychology.

The annual Wiley Prize in Economics, made in partnership with the British Academy, rewards achievement in research for an outstanding early career economist with a prize of £5,000. The 2015 winner is Dr Johannes Spinnewijn (London School of Economics and Political Science) for academic excellence in the field of economics, in particular his research in current and topical public policy.

“I was very pleased to hear the news," said Dr Johannes Spinnewijn. "I am very honoured to be the young person in such a distinguished group.”

The Wiley Prize in Psychology also provides an award of £5,000 in recognition of excellence in research in psychology. It alternately rewards lifetime achievement by an outstanding international scholar and promising early career work by a UK-based psychologist. The 2015 lifetime achievement winner is Professor Peter Fonagy OBE FBA (University College London) for his excellence in and contribution to the study of clinical psychology and psychotherapy.

"It’s an enormous honor to be in the company of great psychologists such as Martin Seligman, Michael Tomasello and Anne Treisman," said Peter Fonagy. "Whilst I shall never be able to think of myself as being a deserving recipient I do feel proud on behalf of the many collaborators I have worked with over the years who genuinely deserve this prize. I have enjoyed my work because it has always been work in teams and I have been extraordinarily lucky in having the most able and talented individuals to work with across a range of disciplines. I am principally pleased to receive the prize as a celebration of the contribution they have made to psychological science and allied disciplines."

"Wiley is proud to sponsor these awards in conjunction with the British Academy," said Sarah Oates, Society Director, Life, Physical, Social Science and Humanities, Wiley. "We have a longstanding and deep commitment to supporting research, societies and publishing in psychology and economics. We are delighted to be recognizing both lifetime achievement and the work of early career scholars in this year’s awards.”
